EXPEDITORS INTERNATIONAL Q1 EARNINGS UP 16%

Expeditors International of Washington reported first-quarter 2026 diluted earnings per share of $1.71, up 16% from the same quarter a year earlier.

Net earnings attributable to shareholders rose 13% to $230 million, while operating income increased 11% to $295 million. Revenue climbed 4% to $2.8 billion.

The company said airfreight tonnage increased 5% from the first quarter of 2025, while ocean container volume fell 4%.

Several businesses posted double-digit revenue growth, including customs, transcon, distribution and order management.

Expeditors returned $288 million to shareholders through share repurchases during the quarter.

The company said gross margins in airfreight improved sequentially from the fourth quarter of 2025, helped by higher per-kilo profitability and a more stable balance between selling and buying prices during the first two months of the quarter. Airfreight tonnage also increased from a year earlier, supported by strong demand from technology customers.

In ocean freight and ocean services, revenue declined from the first quarter of 2025 as both pricing and volume weakened. The company said lower average profitability per container and weaker volume, especially on exports from Asia, pressured results, though favorable buy rates and cost control helped offset some of the decline. As a result of these announcements, the company's shares have moved 7.01% on the market, and are now trading at a price of $149.50.
