Compass, Inc. reshaped its board on October 14, 2026, adding technology executive Sissie Hsiao and losing longtime director Charles Phillips.
Hsiao joins the board after nearly 20 years at Google, where she helped lead product development across consumer technology and oversaw work on the Gemini app and generative AI applications. She also previously ran Google’s Display, Video and App Advertising businesses.
Phillips stepped down effective October 9 after serving on Compass’s board since August 2020. He had been lead independent director since February 2021, chaired the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and served on the Audit Committee. Compass said his resignation was tied to other commitments outside real estate, not a dispute with the company.
The leadership changes also triggered committee shifts. Frank Martell, a board member since November 2021, takes over as lead independent director. Martell is chair of the Audit Committee and sits on the Compensation Committee. Steven Sordello, on the board since November 2020, becomes chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee while remaining on the Audit Committee.
Compass highlighted the scale of its platform alongside the board update: it operates in every major U.S. city and about 120 countries and territories, serves millions of buyers and sellers, and supports more than 300,000 real estate professionals across its owned-brokerage and franchise businesses. The market has reacted to these announcements by moving the company's shares -0.11% to a price of $8.81. For the full picture, make sure to review Compass's 8-K report.
